MARK CLATTENBURG: I understand why Martin Atkinson chose to show Son Heung-min a red card after Andre Gomes' horror injury, but should Serge Aurier have been sent off too?

I understand why Martin Atkinson sent off Son Heung-min. However, I am still not certain Son's actions alone were the cause of Andre Gomes' leg break.

The Premier League?say Son's tackle endangered the safety of an opponent, and they are right. Atkinson and VAR official Anthony Taylor would have been looking at the consequence of Son's foul.?

If they determine the injury would not have happened without it, the player should be sent off for serious foul play.??

Son Heung-min sees red after playing a role in the horrific injury to Everton's Andre Gomes

Mark Clattenburg has questioned whether Martin Atkinson should have sent off Serge Aurier

'Intent' has been removed from the laws. Now, the focus is on the consequence.?

But the injury was caused by a freak combination of Son's foul and Gomes planting a foot in the turf, then the impact from Serge Aurier.?

That being the case, should Aurier have seen red, too? Atkinson could have looked at the pitchside monitor to get a better idea of how the injury was caused.

Aurier can count himself lucky not to have seen red after his tackle on Everton's Gomes
